A Personalized Father's Day Gift: DIY Candle Making with Your Kids

Father's Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by creating a unique and heartfelt gift for Dad? In this blog article, we'll guide you through a fun DIY candle-making project that you can do with your kids. With the help of our special little assistant, Blake, we'll show you step by step how to create a personalized Father's Day candle that Dad will truly appreciate.

Gathering the Supplies

Before we begin, it's essential to have all our supplies ready. Here's what you'll need:

  • Millennium soy wax
  • 8-ounce Madison jars
  • Wooden lids for a personalized touch
  • HTP 105 Wicks and stickum for secure placement
  • Fragrance oils (we'll be using 'Summer Storm')
  • Dye colors (blue and black)

If you're wondering where to find all the necessary supplies for your Father's Day candle-making adventure, look no further than Village Craft & Candle. We offer a wide selection of high-quality candle-making materials, including soy wax, fragrance oils, wicks, and more. By using our premium products, you can ensure that your candles turn out beautifully and emit delightful scents.

Making the Candle

Now that we have our supplies ready, it's time to dive into the candle-making process. Here's a breakdown of the steps:

  •  Melting the Wax
  • To ensure safety, it's best for adults to handle the melting process. Using the double boiler method, melt the Millennium soy wax until it reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Remember, safety first when working with heat around kids!

  •  Choosing Fragrance and Dye
  • Let your child take part in the decision-making process. In our case, Blake chose the 'Summer Storm' fragrance. For the colour, he opted for a mix of blue and black, giving our candle a beautiful smoky blue hue reminiscent of a summer storm.

  •  Adding Fragrance and Dye
  • Once the wax is melted, remove it from the heat and add the fragrance oil. We recommend following the recommended amount for the specific fragrance. In our case, we used half an ounce of 'Summer Storm' for our eight-ounce jar. Stir the wax slowly and thoroughly to distribute the fragrance evenly.

  •  Mixing the Dye
  • With your child's assistance, determine the number of dye drops to add. Blake chose three drops of blue dye and one drop of black dye. Remember to avoid contact with the dye and keep your hands clean. Liquid dye sinks to the bottom of the container, so be sure to scrap the bottom as you stir to get all of the dye blended with the wax

  •  Preparing the Wick and Jar
  • Attach the HTP 105 Wick to the stickum and place it at the bottom of the jar. Ensure the wick is centred, and use a Wick clip to hold it in place. Give the mixture a final stir to ensure the dye is well mixed.

  •  Pouring the Candle
  • With your child's help, carefully pour the wax into the jar, avoiding contact with the hot surface. Hold the handle securely, and pour slowly to prevent any spills.

  •  Personalizing the Lid
  • While waiting for the candle to set, let your child's creativity shine by decorating the wooden lid with paint or other materials. This personal touch will make the gift even more special for Dad. Creating a label for the candle is another fun way to add a special personalized touch.

    Finishing Touches and Safety Measures

Once the candle has set, it's time for the finishing touches.

    Here's what you'll do:

  • Safety Caution Label
  • Attach a safety caution label to the inside of the lid. This label provides important instructions on how to burn the candle safely.

  •  Reveal the Finished Candle
  • Marvel at the beautiful creation you and your child have made together. The combination of the smoky blue colour and the captivating 'Summer Storm' fragrance will surely impress Dad.

  •  The Perfect Father's Day Gift
  • Present the finished candle to Dad with pride. It's not just a gift; it's a symbol of the special bond between a child and their father. Homemade candles make for a meaningful and unique Father's Day gift that Dad will cherish.

    Conclusion

Creating a DIY candle with your kids is a fantastic way to celebrate Father's Day. This project allows you to spend quality time together while crafting a personalized gift that Dad will love. Remember, it's not about the perfection of the candle but the love and effort put into making it. So, gather your supplies, let your creativity flow, and enjoy this heartwarming activity with your little ones. Happy Father's Day!
